Hypnosis For Birth

Whether women (and men) accept it or not, child birth is an experience that puts the parents to tense and anxious state. Notice a mother to be in her last month of pregnancy and whether she admits it or not, you would surely find her anxious about that final labor day. This anxiousness can vary from minor concern to full fledged panic at times.

The final day is the most incredible day of your life! Shouldn’t it be stress-free and pain- free? That is where hypnotherapy steps in. Live every moment of the most memorable day of your life to the hilt, with less pain.

It is strongly believed by hypnotherapists that hypnosis decreases the labor time, lessens the pain for the mother, helps parents become more calm and confident during the labor. Not only hypnosis practitioners, but even obstetricians admit that hypnosis for birth can act as a big tool in helping the would-be parents and hence, is vastly used by doctors as well. The process is known as Hypno-birthing.

We have already discussed in the previous posts that hypnosis is a relaxed state that makes a person much more responsive towards suggestions. Here, the person is completely in control of his feelings rather than his mind. During labor, when the hypnotized mother-to-be is more responsive to suggestions, she understands the birthing process much better. Understanding makes the fear of the unknown go away, making the mother and father to be more calm and confident.

Why is labor, at times, such a painful experience? It is so because the mother tries to fight what is happening to her rather than going with the flow. Fear and anxiety automatically tenses the body. This makes the blood flow in the arms and legs of the mother which should actually flow in her uterus, thus making the process more painful. Hypno- birthing helps you accept what is happening and come to terms with it, thus making the experience easier and less painful. Hypnosis makes you welcome each contraction as another step closer to holding your precious baby in your arms.

There is no pressure on the mother to enter and exit hypnosis. All types of hypnosis are self hypnosis only and the hypnotherapist acts as only a guide and a friend. Thus, the mother is in total control as to what and when she wants. Being in hypnosis converts the pain and contractions into the pressure that is essential to push the baby out. It is also very strongly believed that a baby born by a hypnotized mother leads a much more healthier and stronger life.

Giving birth in hypnosis is like experiencing a day-dream. The mother is fully aware of what is happening around her, yet understands it and thus, deals with it calmly. Needless to say, the mother is in control of the whole labor process. Imagine, no drugs, no stitches, yet less pain. Isn’t that an ideal birth to a precious little life?

How Hypnotherapy Works

In the previous blog of Clear Thot Mind Sciences we tried to bring an insight towards Hypnotherapy as a valid therapeutic remedy and no subject to bafflements. The worldwide acceptance of hypnotherapy bears all the evidence that it is a well adopted practice in medical science. But the curiosity has never faded about how so many kinds of troublesome diseases are treated in such a pacifying procedure that is free from even hectic medication schedules! The answer is that it is nothing but a tested and proven scientific procedure. Clear Thot Mind Sciences has been curing people from stress, anxiety and mental discomforts and all the diseases originating from these issues. Now it makes another effort to unveil this fine mechanism out of darkness with the help of some simple terms.

Hypnotherapy essentially uses the trance state of human being to communicate with its sub-conscious mind, which has the power of developing positive and healthy behaviors. During hypnosis a person achieves a state of deep relaxation with controlled blood pressure and composed heart rate. In this the thoughts of a human being become more focused and more responsive to suggestions. Now this increased responsiveness is used to develop habits and reactions effectively that facilitates the process of curing. This phenomenon between conscious and subconscious mind can be better understood with general understanding of the underlying functionalities of these two.

The conscious mind is the logical and rational part of our brain that analyses situations to act accordingly. It also works as a temporary storage that enables us to remember things for a certain period. We, during most of the situations entrust our conscious mind to deal with problems. It basically analyses and justifies our behavior with respect to those situations. Sometimes it enforces will-power to change behaviors and turn them into desired ones. But ultimately this effort ends up being a lame one as willpower struggles to endure.

The subconscious mind on the other hand rules our emotions and intuitions. Unlike our conscious mind it stores elements for longer terms. As it stores certain experiences, it also stores our judgments, beliefs and habits produced by those experiences. These can otherwise be termed as our brain’s reactions to those experiences. Here we are concerned about those reactions which are unhealthy like feeling of pain (both mental and physical), depression, stress or anxiety. When we face similar situations again, we repeat those behaviors in the sub-conscious state. Through the state of hypnosis, a trained therapist guides you to remember those situations that produced unfavorable reactions, separate those learned behaviors from our memory and replace them with healthier ones. It is just the power of mind at the state of physical relaxation that is utilized for the betterment of your health.

Now the question arises, why do we need to follow this particular method of Hypnotherapy to relax, communicate with our subconscious mind and persuade it to establish desired behaviour. It is because we cannot get past through our subconscious mind during any type of relaxation. The reason is an important protective feature that the subconscious mind posseses. Whenever it identifies a threat to our mental and physical security, it exerts those beliefs and habits to keep us safe. And suggestions can only reach their destination by getting through the critical factor of the conscious mind. It evaluates suggestions, analyzes them and even takes time to decide whether the suggestions are good for us. If the suggestions are allowed to the subconscious mind, they get stored in our brain permanently. As the subconscious mind is emotional and without a critical factor, it tells us that we really feel like adopting a behavior. It motivates us to adopt positive changes in us and we don’t need to enforce willpower for that.

That was the secret behind such a comfortable, relaxing and painless therapeutic relief provided by hypnotherapy. Not only that, Hypnotherapy Institutions like ClearThot Mind Sciences also teach self-hypnosis where hypnotherapy can be practiced by oneself. It is no mesmerizing hand movements coming out of the dark; it is just the mental alignment and better control over ones own mind power that does the magic.

Hypnotherapy is a Science and Not The Devil's Tantra

Is hypnosis dangerous or bad?
No; not at all!

And what is Hypnotherapy, then?
It is a science that cleanses your mind, relaxes you and cures even big diseases! Magically helpful science!

Despite the growing acceptance and countless scientific researches approving the effectiveness of hypnosis for betterment of life, the skepticism surrounding this particular subject still clouds the common man. For certain reasons it is quite justified as well. The prime influence behind this obscure perception is the traditional way in which it has been presented to the social mainstream, irrespective of the scientific support and its gifts.
Think of the simplest equation in our mind associated with the term “Hypnosis”; and you witness an obscure cloudy set up with unusual surroundings, a mesmerizing identity having strong command over a helpless subject, or even sometimes individuals going under some mystic influence and demonstrating some astonishing acts which captivate the audience with its formidable influence. Well whether or not those acts are genuine, is definitely debatable. To some they are just brilliant acting capabilities by stooges. No doubts arise when we believe that they are presented to you for the purpose of pure entertainment, and after witnessing all these you are hardly expected to have a positive sense.
The skeptical mindset about Hypnosis originates primarily from the lack of proper understanding on this particular subject. Professional Hypnotherapists use exercises (The process is called Hypnotherapy) to bring about deep relaxation, which is also referred to as an Altered State of Consciousness. We understand this better as ‘Trance State’. Under this condition, a subject shows unusual responsiveness to suggestions, ideas or images, but this in no way means that the hypnotist can control the mind and body of the subject against its free will; by reckoning of experts it is simply not possible. Modern hypnotherapy practices are altogether different from what we have perceived from the ancient times. It has become a tested and proven therapy to improve immune functions, reduce stress, chronic pain and feelings of anxiety. It teaches human beings to have greater control on their own state of awareness. One’s own bodily functions and psychological responses can be controlled to a greater extent.
To be honest, Hypnotherapy is no longer a strange term in medical circles either. Modern Hypnotherapy started gaining popularity in the mid-90s by works of Milton H. Erickson. Hypnotherapy has been attested by American Medical Association and American Psychological Association as a valid medical procedure in 1958. Not only that, The National Institute of Health has been recommending Hypnotherapy as a treatment for chronic pain since 1995. Thanks to the role of media, hypnotherapy which was earlier perceived as something similar to black magic has now become widely accepted.
Currently the knowledge of Hypnotherapy is used from emergency rooms to dental offices providing remedies to problems like irritable bowel syndrome, tension headaches, alopecia areata, asthma, phobias, insomnia, addictions, bedwetting, fibromyalgia, nightmares, labor and delivery, skin disorders (such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema), stress, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), cancer-related pain, weight loss, eating disorders, warts, indigestion (dyspepsia).
